How Can You Clean Your Basin Taps?

Monday June 7, 2010

There is no doubt that a brand new set of basin taps freshly installed looks absolutely sparkling clean and wonderful. But after a while you will start to get water marks, lime scale and other nasty elements building up if you don’t start to take good care of them.

This is why you should get into good habits and get into a routine of cleaning your new taps regularly so they always look very good. For starters, make sure you read the packaging that came with your taps to ensure you find out about anything you shouldn’t use on them. Most taps are easy enough to clean and take care of, but it is always wise to make sure there is nothing that could harm them.

One of the key tools you should keep close at hand to clean your basin taps with is actually a toothbrush. This might sound daft but toothbrushes are ideal for getting into all those small gaps – especially round the base of the tap – where it is easy for germs to congregate. If you use this regularly when cleaning the taps you will get a good result and a clean and hygienic set of taps to use at all times.

Another tool worth having is a squirty bottle of lime scale remover. You can buy this in most good shops that stock items for cleaning the bathroom, and it is very easy to use. Simply squirt it around all those areas where lime scale will tend to build up. You will find the two prime areas are at the base of the tap and the end of the tap where the water actually comes out. If you squirt some of the cleaner onto these areas and then leave it to do its magic, you will end up having a good opportunity to keep your taps free from lime scale completely.

When it comes to proper cleaning of your taps, a simple bathroom cleaner will do the best job. Buy it in a squirty bottle so you can apply it easily to all areas of the taps. Then just leave it for five minutes or so before you rinse it clean. If you do this regularly after buying your taps you will find that you can keep them looking as good as the day you bought them with the minimum of effort.
