How Easy Is It To Fit Basin Taps?

Tuesday February 15, 2011

This is probably a question most people will be asking at one time or another. While some will automatically get another person to fit a new kitchen or bathroom with all the trimmings for them, others will think about completing certain jobs themselves to save money.

For example you might get someone in to install the bath and so on, but you may feel confident enough to tackle the taps on your own. In addition you may just be replacing the taps you have now; nothing else may need doing.

Sometimes you will see basin taps for sale that have easy fit systems. Apparently virtually everyone can fit these because they are colour coded – blue for cold water and red for hot water – so it is easy enough to do. But remember you should always consider the job carefully before trying it yourself.

Read through all the instructions and consider whether you feel able to do it. Do you have all the right tools you would need as well? It’s not good enough to make do with something else because there could be a specific reason why you have to use a certain piece of equipment.

The main thing to remember is that if you do not feel confident about fitting basin taps or you do not understand the instructions that come with them get an expert in to do it for you. Not everyone is cut out to be an expert tap fitter, and there is no shame in realising you’re not one! You may be able to find someone you know who is able to take the job on for you, so don’t despair if you don’t want to do it yourself.

Just remember to hang onto any instructions that come with your new taps when you get them. You should be able to get a good idea of whether you want to try fitting it or not from the instructions, but you can also keep them for reading about replacement washers and other potential issues in the future as well.
